Malta Inc. develops pumped heat energy storage systems that store electricity as thermal energy in molten salt and cold liquid. Based on technology originally developed at Google X, Malta's system promises low-cost, long-duration storage anywhere.
Malta Inc. was spun out of Google X (Alphabet's moonshot factory) in 2018. The company has raised over $200M from investors including Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Proman, and Alfa Laval, and is developing utility-scale storage projects.
